Role Title: Mechanical Design Engineer – CAD & Manufacturing Role Type: Contractor Location: Remote micro1 is engaging Mechanical Design Engineer – CAD & Manufacturing experts to contribute technical expertise on a customer's engineering project. In this role, you'll apply your expertise to help train next-generation AI systems. Your work will shape how models learn, reason, and perform through high-quality, real-world input. No prior experience in AI is required — your domain knowledge is what matters. Scope of Work • Create and interpret professional engineering drawings, ensuring all relevant details are conveyed for manufacturing. • Translate complex design requirements into clear, manufacturable CAD specifications, with a focus on accuracy and precision. • Produce detailed 2D and 3D models using industry-standard tools (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Onshape, Inventor, Creo, NX) and reference models in FreeCAD. • Apply advanced principles of tolerancing, dimensioning, and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) to all deliverables. • Document and communicate manufacturing processes and design intent in clear, well-structured written and verbal formats. • Review, critique, and improve existing engineering documentation to enhance clarity and manufacturability. • Contribute insights on design for manufacture (DFM) and help optimize parts for real-world production scenarios. Preferred Qualifications • Extensive industry experience in mechanical design, with parts successfully transitioned from concept through to manufacturing. • Expert-level proficiency in CAD software, with demonstrated capability across multiple platforms (e.g., SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Onshape, Inventor, Creo, NX). • Solid hands-on knowledge of FreeCAD for interpreting or referencing models. • Strong command of drafting standards, GD&T, tolerancing, and the creation of technical documentation suitable for manufacturing. • Deep understanding of various manufacturing processes, material selection, and DFM best practices. • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, able to document decisions and explain engineering concepts clearly. • Experience collaborating on engineering projects remotely and sharing feedback in a constructive, professional manner.
